I was just like you. Very athletic in every aspect except I never skateboarded or snowboarded. I tried snowboarding last year for the first time in my life and it was extreamly difficult. I recommend you stay on the bunny hill your first day for the whole day, I went down black diamonds after about two hours and ended up sledding on my snowboard back to the commons to have beers because i hit my head pretty good. I’ll try it again this year and will stick to the bunny hills.

    take a lesson.

teaching yourself to snowboard is a bad idea for two reasons: you may hurt yourself; you will almost certainly pick up bad habits.

any ski resort should give you a good discount on your lift ticket and equipment rental if you take a beginner lesson so there’s good incentive to take a lesson.

even if you’ve never skateboarded, any snowboard instructor worth their salt will find transferable skills you can use.

    good luck and have fun

It might help some, but you still have to get use to it. You might not get as fatigued and stuff, and it may come easier, but not nessacarily .Start somewhere gradual and some people i know that have snowboarded a while still think tow ropes are hard and wont go on them, so you might wanna try a chairlift if you have a gradual one. And if you dont get lessons definatly go with someone who has snowboarded before. Just stick with it and dont tire yourself out.

Oh and for that girl thowing the fit you failed cause you just plan ****. And incase you didn’t catch my drift im talking about an easy hill not some triple black dimond. Im pretty sure the classes at our mountain take the kids right up to the top of the easiest hill which isn’t that big, but they don’t have to mess with the rope which is hard. Some mountains don’t even have tow ropes. And this kids going to rock. He wants to learn fast not spend his whole life on the baby hills:) It will give you a longer run to practice.

Im pretty athletic in a way. I have really good balance and im really flexible. Balance is really important in snowboarding so it’d be nice if you were, but anyways, I tried snowboarding for the first time like 4 years ago, and I basically picked it up within an hour and a half? it’s important to stay on the bunny slope. dumb *** me followed my friend and i ended up walking down a big *** slope for like 2 hours!! on top of that, i thought “oh! what if i sled down? that would be faster!” well, NO.. you’ll get slapped by massive snow. and i dropped my snowboard down the slop which cause quite a drama! yea you gotta get the feel of it and once you kind of know the basic, it’ll be pretty easy. I actually did a group lesson thing. It’s about $50. I think it’s worth it, because they do teach you basics. like what to do when you wanna stop, few different styles, techniques.. It’s a fun sport. i was amazed at the speed i was going when I first tried ther bigger slopes. I couldnt stop myself. But you know, when in doubt, you can always fall on your ***. haha~

i was the same way and i have to agree that you should take a lesson. at the end of the day, you will probably be less soar. the athleticism really doesnt help that much. i go with my friends who think theyll pik it up in a second because they are athletic. soooo wrong. if u have the money a helmet is a good investment.

    good luck

    1. Lessons are optional.
    2. A helmet is required.
    3. Stretch and have fun.

Take a lesson. You don’t have to take a lesson but that will get you going the fastest. If you can afford it go for a private lesson so that if you catch on quickly you won’t have to be stuck on step one with the rest of the group.

Wear good waterproof clothes because if you get wet and cold it’s hard to have fun and stay positive which is what you need to learn quickly and have a good time.
